Alibaba Launches Chatbot Tongyi Qianwen, Similar to ChatGPT

Alibaba, the largest e-commerce company, has launched Tongyi Qianwen, an AI-powered large language model that functions similarly to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The company aims to enable its customers to build customized language models and integrate all of their business applications on one platform.

Initially, Tongyi Qianwen will be connected to DingTalk, Alibaba’s messaging app, and will later be used for summarizing meeting notes, drafting business proposals, and writing emails. The chatbot will also be connected with Alibaba’s voice assistant, Tmall Genie.

Alibaba Cloud plans to open Tongyi Qianwen to its customers to help them build their language models. The model is based on Tongyi, Alibaba’s proprietary pre-trained model framework that unifies various AI models.

Although Alibaba did not present a live demonstration of the new bot at its annual Cloud Summit in Beijing, the company aims to provide more foundation models jointly with research institutes, universities, and other industries in Alibaba’s Cloud platform.

Tongyi Qianwen is currently only available to Alibaba’s Chinese enterprise customers for beta testing, but it will soon come to the public.
