Scientists are planning to use artificial intelligence as a medium to talk to aliens civilizations. This radical suggestion, put forward by Franch Marchis of the SETI Institute and Ignacio G. Lopez-Francois of NASA, was the subject of an editorial published last week in Scientific American.

How scientists will talk to aliens in real time?

The concept would allow AI to communicate freely and instantaneously with aliens because it represented information and culture from human beings. The traditional method of communication, even for radio waves, introduces a long delay when messages are transmitted over the enormous distances involved in space. In contrast, AI can bridge this gap in communications, helping to have meaningful and efficient exchanges with advanced extraterrestrial civilizations.

It will be a perpetual and evolving presence that would create mutual understanding between humans and aliens. In the process of communicating with extraterrestrial beings, the AI would learn from them, and vice versa, offering unparalleled opportunities for interstellar dialogue. While this approach is still largely theoretical, it could shift the communication of aliens from science fiction into reality as technological advances are made.

This outline addresses most of the current thinking of the SETI enterprise for newer ways to contact alien life. AI would be able to revolutionize a possible route to an extraterrestrial civilization if this were realized.
