Sindh Government to Amend Laws for Introduction of Multiple Power Utilities”

The Sindh government is set to revise its existing laws to facilitate the entry of multiple power utilities, aiming to improve electricity supply and reduce dependence on a single provider. Announced on September 29, 2024, this decision comes in response to the growing demand for reliable power supply in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

Under the proposed changes, private power companies will be allowed to operate in different regions, breaking the monopoly of the existing power utility. This move is expected to enhance competition, leading to better service quality, reduced load shedding, and more efficient energy distribution across the province. The Sindh government believes that introducing multiple players in the power sector will ultimately benefit consumers by providing them with more choices and improved services.

The initiative is part of the Sindh government’s broader strategy to address energy shortages and modernize the province’s infrastructure. As power outages continue to disrupt daily life and economic activities, the introduction of multiple power utilities could mark a significant step towards achieving energy stability in the region.
