Uber’s Bold AI Move: Tailored Electric Vehicle Support for Drivers

Uber Technologies has rolled out a new product that makes it easier for drivers to switch to electric vehicles. Specifically, it is an electric vehicle support chatbot, powered by OpenAI GPT 4 technology, fully tailored to the needs and requirements of its users. The AI assistant was announced at the company’s Go-Get Zero event held in London as one that would help assist its drivers in providing them with personalized recommendations on how they might shift to electric cars based on their city and the available incentives. The company also aims to have its drivers fully transition to electric vehicles as part of a broader effort to cut emissions.

Uber made an $800 million commitment to fully switch over to electric vehicles for its driver partners by 2040. The customized EV support assistant is only one part of a suite of initiatives that ride-hailing company Uber is rolling out under this goal. Already, about 180,000 Uber drivers in North America and Europe are substituting EVs for conventional vehicles, at five times the rate of the average driver, said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. In London, nearly 30% of all miles being driven on the Uber platform were electric.

Electric vehicle support target: Uber establishes mentorship programs

To complement these targeted efforts, Uber has established a mentorship program for drivers making the transition to EVs. Seasoned EV drivers will be able to guide newcomers through their experiences and tips. The company is offering incentives to businesses on its food delivery platform, awarding $50,000 to top merchants to boost their sustainability efforts.

In addition to driver support, Uber is now hosting EV test drives for its users in different cities. In London, testers can get a drive in the Lotus Eletre, while testing in Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas will feature the Rivian R1. All these moves serve as the strong pillars of the company’s long-term vision: an all-electric fleet driven by its customized electric vehicle support system.
