Right to Retaliatory Strikes Asserted
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif declared Pakistan’s right to conduct retaliatory strikes inside Afghanistan if terrorist groups continue launching cross-border attacks. In a strongly-worded statement, Asif warned that Pakistan would not hesitate to enter Afghan territory to target militant groups responsible for violence against Pakistan.
Failed Diplomatic Efforts Cited
The Minister expressed frustration over unproductive diplomatic engagements with Afghanistan, noting that multiple delegations and years of dialogue have failed to stop terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil. He accused the Kabul government of being unable to provide credible guarantees about preventing attacks on Pakistan, specifically naming India-sponsored groups operating from Afghan territory.
Call for Mutual Respect of Sovereignty
Asif emphasized Pakistan’s expectation that Afghanistan honor the sanctity of its borders, just as Pakistan remains committed to preventing harm to Afghan territory. The statement reflects Islamabad’s growing impatience with persistent cross-border terrorism and its determination to safeguard national security through decisive action if necessary.
