The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has introduced a new free electric bus service at its Jamshoro campus, aiming to improve student mobility and promote environmentally friendly transport within the university premises.
The initiative was launched under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan, who stated that the electric buses will facilitate convenient transportation for students across different parts of the campus.
The service is designed to reduce travel difficulties for students, particularly those who have to move between departments, lecture halls, and residential areas. By offering free internal transport, the university aims to enhance accessibility and improve overall campus efficiency.
Alongside improving convenience, the introduction of electric buses reflects a broader shift toward sustainable practices in educational institutions. Electric vehicles are increasingly being adopted worldwide as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner energy use.
At the campus level, the service is expected to save time for students and reduce reliance on informal or less organized transport options. University administration believes this will contribute to a more structured and student-friendly environment.
The move also aligns with growing awareness of environmental responsibility in Pakistan’s higher education sector. Institutions are gradually integrating green initiatives into their infrastructure planning to support long-term sustainability goals.
Officials indicate that the service will initially operate within campus routes, with potential expansion depending on demand and operational performance. Feedback from students will play a key role in shaping future improvements to the transport system.
Overall, the introduction of electric buses marks a positive step toward modernizing campus facilities while prioritizing both convenience and environmental sustainability.
