Sindh’s Clean Transport Vision Gains Momentum
In a major move toward decarbonized transport, Sindh’s provincial government has secured a partnership with a leading Chinese automotive manufacturer to install EV charging stations across the province.
Minister Sharjeel Memon, following a tour of Chery’s main facilities in Wuhu, China, confirmed that the project involves placing charging points at 50-kilometer intervals, ensuring wide-scale accessibility for EV users.
Employment and Infrastructure in Focus
Memon stressed that the partnership is not just about technology but also about creating livelihoods. The construction, management, and maintenance of these EV stations are expected to generate employment and technical training opportunities for Sindh’s workforce.
Assembly Plant for Electric Trucks to Launch in Karachi
A new development includes a Karachi-based EV mini-truck assembly plant, currently in progress. The aim is to manufacture budget-friendly electric vehicles domestically, lowering the entry barrier for many Pakistanis considering the switch to electric transport.
This initiative is poised to contribute to local industrial growth and position Karachi as a competitive player in the region’s EV market.
Solar Projects for Low-Income Families
Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Shah added that solar energy distribution is underway to support low-income residents. The distribution is part of a larger energy initiative meant to ease electricity cost burdens and promote off-grid living in high-tariff zones.
NEPRA Reduces EV Charging Rates
In alignment with these provincial efforts, NEPRA has reduced EV charging station tariffs by nearly 50 percent—from Rs 45.55 to Rs 23.57 per unit—making EV usage more economical. The decision also includes the removal of the Rs 24.44 profit margin cap, encouraging further investment into the EV charging sector.
With synchronized policy shifts and foreign investment, Sindh is positioning itself as a leader in Pakistan’s clean transportation transformation.
