Discord, the popular communication platform, is taking its gaming experience to the next level with the introduction of exciting new features. The platform’s Activities feature, which allows users to engage in built-in mini-games within voice channels, is set to expand significantly. Starting March 18, Discord will roll out tools for third-party developers, enabling them to create games and apps for the platform.
This move marks a significant shift as third-party games and apps will soon be integrated into Discord, broadening its offerings beyond its initial built-in Activities. These third-party apps are expected to be seamlessly embedded directly into the Discord app, providing users with a seamless experience.
Initially offering 19 Activities, Discord is poised for significant growth with the introduction of third-party developer tools. The Embedded App SDK will empower developers to craft their own Activities, fueling Discord’s ambition to become the ultimate destination for developers to build, share, distribute, and monetize their creations.
Users eager to try out the new Activities can do so by simply hopping into a Voice Channel and utilizing the Rocket button. Furthermore, Discord is experimenting with linking new games and apps to user accounts, potentially allowing their use beyond servers.
Developers will have the option to activate this feature, with testing scheduled to commence on March 18th. With these exciting developments, Discord is solidifying its position as the go-to platform for gaming enthusiasts and developers alike, promising an even more immersive and diverse experience for its users.
