Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, announced a revolutionary plan for students in the province by promising to provide 100,000 e-bikes and 50,000 scholarships within next year. At the Okara University, where she also distributed scholarship cheques, the Chief Minister emphasized the revolutionary nature of this program, the biggest of its kind in Pakistan.
Speaking passionately about education, Maryam Nawaz said that the Talented Students Scholarship Program is merit-based. She underlined that these scholarships are a proof of students’ abilities and not charity. The announcement of 30,000 scholarships this year, increasing to 50,000 in 2024, is complemented by the provision of e-bikes to 100,000 deserving students, easing transportation challenges for youth across Punjab.
Praising Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat for his contributions, Maryam said, “Like a good student, he takes criticism but continues to deliver.” She encouraged the audience to always seek truth and integrity in their pursuits, reinforcing the government’s dedication to building a progressive and educated society.
The Chief Minister shared plans to make Okara Medical College operational by 2025, a huge stride in enhancing higher education infrastructure within the region. The first lot of laptops sent under a students’ support scheme has also been received, depicting the government’s efforts toward facilitating the youth and their use of technology.
The event ended on a vibrant note as Maryam Nawaz mingled with students, taking selfies and engaging in meaningful interactions. Her efforts to connect personally with the attendees added to the sense of optimism and excitement about Punjab’s educational future.
