WhatsApp has introduced two significant updates: 32-person video calls and a new chat transfer feature. The enhanced video calling capabilities now allow up to 32 participants across all devices, improving the appās functionality for larger group interactions. Additionally, users can watch videos together during calls, adding a new dimension to group video experiences.
A notable addition is the speaker spotlight feature, which highlights the person speaking during video calls, improving communication clarity. To ensure reliable call quality, Meta has integrated the Meta Low Bitrate (MLow) codec, which offers twice the audio quality with reduced computing complexity. This codec, already used on Instagram and Messenger calls, will be available on WhatsApp soon.
The new chat transfer feature enables users to move their chat history between devices without needing Google Drive backups. This aims to provide a smoother, more user-friendly experience, addressing concerns about data backup and transfer efficiency.
WhatsAppās commitment to enhancing user experience is further demonstrated by a new feature for Mac users, allowing them to share status updates directly from their computers. Mac users can post images, videos, GIFs, text, and voice messages via status updates, similar to a feature recently introduced for Android devices. The latest WhatsApp beta for Mac version 24.11.73 enables beta testers to post status updates from their Macs, enhancing cross-device functionality.
