Travelers planning a European trip in late 2025 or early 2026 often consider visa approval chances when choosing their destination. While the outcome of a Schengen Visa application always depends on individual documents and travel history, historical approval-rate data shows that some countries approve a significantly higher percentage of applications than others.

Across the Schengen Area, overall visa approval rates stood at around 52.2% in the most recently available data. However, several member countries recorded much higher approval rates, making them comparatively easier destinations for travelers applying for a Schengen Visa.

Based on available approval statistics, Iceland ranked as the most visa-friendly destination, with an approval rate of approximately 91.25%. This was followed by Slovakia with an approval rate of about 89.25%.

Several other European destinations also reported strong approval rates. Italy approved roughly 88.72% of applications, while Romania recorded an approval rate of about 88.36%. Meanwhile, Switzerland maintained an approval rate close to 88.12%.

Additional countries on the list include Hungary and Norway, both of which approved more than 87% of applications. Greece also remained among the more accessible options, with approval rates exceeding 85%.

Similarly, Austria and Luxembourg rounded out the top ten countries with approval rates above 85%, making them relatively favorable destinations for visa applicants.

It is worth noting that rankings can change from year to year. In earlier reports, countries such as Germany, Latvia, Poland, and Lithuania were among the top performers in visa approvals, highlighting how trends shift depending on application volumes and immigration policies.

When applying for a Schengen Visa, travelers must submit their application to the correct authority. If visiting only one country, the application should be made through that country’s embassy, consulate, or authorized visa center. For multi-country trips, applicants must apply through the country where they plan to spend the most time, known as the main destination.

According to available statistics, more than 11.7 million visa applications were submitted across the Schengen Area in 2024. The high demand for visas often leads to limited appointment availability and longer processing times, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Even in countries with high approval rates, visa success is never guaranteed. Authorities may reject applications due to missing documents, unclear travel plans, insufficient financial proof, or weak evidence of ties to the applicant’s home country.

For travelers aiming to improve their chances of approval, experts recommend submitting a complete application with a clear travel itinerary, verified accommodation bookings, and proper financial documentation.
