Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Says All His 100+ Children Will Get Equal Share in Property

In a world where tech moguls often make headlines for acquisitions and innovation, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov is drawing attention for a very different reason: his unconventional legacy. The 40-year-old founder of the encrypted messaging giant has shared that he has over 100 biological children, and they will all inherit equally from his multibillion-dollar estate.

Speaking to Le Point, a French political magazine, Durov explained that his will ensures no child is left behind, whether born from romantic relationships or via sperm donations over the last 15 years. ā€œThey are all my children and will all have the same rights,ā€ he declared. ā€œI don’t want them to tear each other apart after my death.ā€

While headlines focus on his net worth, estimated at $13.9 billion, Telegram CEO Durov insists his wealth is mostly theoretical. ā€œI’m not selling Telegram,ā€ he said. ā€œMy liquid assets are from early Bitcoin investments, not from the app.ā€ Even so, his heirs will have to wait. Durov has made it clear: the fortune won’t be available for 30 years, as he wants his children to ā€œbuild themselvesā€ without dependency.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov is Protecting Telegram’s Future Alongside His Children

Beyond inheritance, Durov is planning for the future of his brainchild, Telegram. He’s the platform’s sole shareholder and fiercely protective of its core values. In his words, “I want Telegram to forever remain faithful to the values I defend.” Those values, privacy, freedom of speech, and decentralization, are what made Telegram a haven for millions of users.

But that freedom hasn’t come without controversy. Last year, Durov was briefly arrested in Paris over allegations tied to illegal activities on Telegram, including money laundering and trafficking. He brushed off the accusations as ā€œabsurd,ā€ stating, ā€œJust because criminals use our messaging service doesn’t make those who run it criminals.ā€

Living in Dubai and facing risks for defending online privacy, Durov said writing his will now was necessary. ā€œDefending freedoms earns you enemies, even within powerful states,ā€ he said. The Telegram CEO sees his legacy as more than wealth: it’s a statement of independence, ethics, and the right to live and die on one’s own terms.
