The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted interim relief to K-Electric in a dispute involving tariff decisions and related orders issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

The court has temporarily suspended the effect of the challenged notifications and orders connected to K-Electric’s tariff appeals. The development follows legal proceedings initiated by the power utility against decisions affecting its tariff matters.

According to a disclosure submitted by K-Electric to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on October 8, the Sindh High Court passed interim orders on October 7. The court also issued notices to the respondents and fixed the matter for further hearing.

The dispute involves judgments issued by the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal on September 23, 2026. These judgments relate to appeals filed by K-Electric concerning tariff matters and subsequent regulatory decisions.

The case also concerns NEPRA review determinations issued on October 20, 2025. Subsequent notifications issued by NEPRA and the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division are also part of the legal dispute before the court.

The interim order means that the challenged notifications and orders will remain suspended while the matter proceeds through the legal process. The court’s action at this stage is interim in nature and does not represent a final decision on the underlying tariff dispute.

K-Electric’s disclosure to the stock exchange provides an update to investors regarding the legal proceedings and the temporary relief granted by the court. The company remains involved in the proceedings as the court considers the issues raised in its petition.

Tariff decisions involving electricity distribution companies can have significant implications for the companies concerned, consumers and the broader power sector. Regulatory determinations are generally subject to established review and appeal mechanisms when parties challenge their impact.

The latest development places the disputed NEPRA decisions under further judicial consideration. The Sindh High Court’s notices to the respondents will allow the relevant parties to present their positions before the court as proceedings continue.

The matter will now move forward according to the court’s schedule. Further proceedings may provide greater clarity regarding the legal challenges raised by K-Electric and the regulatory decisions at the center of the dispute.

For now, the court’s interim relief prevents the immediate implementation or effect of the challenged notifications and orders covered by the interim directions. The final outcome will depend on the court’s consideration of the case and arguments presented by the parties.

The case remains important for K-Electric because of its connection to the company’s tariff appeals and regulatory framework. Developments in the proceedings will be closely followed by stakeholders in Pakistan’s power sector and financial markets.
