The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police have joined forces to launch Joint Patrol Units aimed at monitoring and enforcing compliance among heavy vehicles in Dubai. These units will operate across six key roads, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
A Major Step in Enhancing Traffic Safety
The Joint Patrol Units are part of the 5-Year Executive Plan for the Traffic Safety Strategy, which focuses on traffic monitoring, road and vehicle engineering, and system development. His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi of Dubai Police emphasized that the initiative would help improve road safety by ensuring heavy vehicles adhere to traffic laws and technical regulations. This includes regular vehicle inspections and ensuring mechanical maintenance to prevent accidents.
“Proper maintenance of heavy vehicles is crucial for preventing serious accidents and ensuring the safe movement of trucks,” said Major General Al Ghaithi, urging drivers to follow traffic laws and conduct regular inspections.
Comprehensive Vehicle Inspections
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the patrols would focus on checking tyre safety, safety equipment, and lighting efficiency. The units will also monitor overloading, protruding cargo, and ensure drivers have valid permits. Violations will lead to immediate fines, Al Banna added, underscoring the commitment to achieving Dubai’s ‘Zero Fatalities’ vision by 2025.
Supporting Dubai’s Logistics Hub
With 73,861 registered heavy vehicles in Dubai, Al Banna stressed that the collaboration between RTA and Dubai Police aims to improve driver behavior and vehicle performance. The city is a major logistics hub, and RTA is dedicated to simplifying regulations and promoting zero-emission vehicles in the sector.
Additionally, RTA has completed 10 truck rest stops across strategic locations to improve driver safety. These rest stops feature prayer rooms, fuel stations, and resting areas.
