Punjab has taken a significant step toward modernizing education by introducing an artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum for students across the province. The initiative, launched by the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA), aims to prepare young learners for the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

According to officials, the move aligns with the timeline set by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, reflecting the government’s focus on integrating technology into education. The first draft of the curriculum was presented by PECTAA CEO Muhammad Musa Ali Bokhari to the provincial education minister and parliamentary secretary for review.

The newly designed curriculum covers a wide spectrum of topics, starting from basic computing concepts and gradually advancing to more complex areas. These include data science, machine learning, robotics, and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence.

PECTAA emphasized that the framework has been structured in an age-appropriate manner. This approach ensures that students build foundational knowledge early and progressively develop advanced skills, enabling them to move beyond basic digital usage toward innovation and real-world problem solving.

A key feature of the curriculum is its balance between global standards and local relevance. Alongside technical knowledge, students will be introduced to concepts such as digital ethics, governance, creativity, and responsible use of technology.

The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future-ready individuals who can adapt to changing technological demands. By introducing AI education at an early stage, Punjab aims to foster a generation that is not only tech-savvy but also capable of contributing to the digital economy.

Education experts believe that such reforms can help bridge the skills gap and create new opportunities for students in emerging fields. As countries worldwide continue to invest in AI and digital transformation, this move positions Punjab as a proactive player in educational innovation.
