The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on September 17, 2024 (Tuesday), in honor of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which marks the 12th of Rabi ul Awwal. As per an official notification, all government offices, schools, and colleges will remain closed on this important religious occasion.
A Unified Celebration Across Pakistan
This holiday follows similar announcements from the Punjab and federal governments, ensuring that the entire country will be united in celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Eid Milad-un-Nabi holds great significance in Islam, as it is a time for Muslims to reflect on the teachings and life of the Prophet (PBUH). Celebrations typically include prayers, religious gatherings, and special sermons that highlight the Prophet’s message of peace and compassion.
The Sindh government has also implemented a ban on pillion riding in Karachi and other major cities to maintain security during the religious processions and events expected to take place.
Governor Tessori’s Push for More Religious Observance
Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has been actively promoting the importance of Rabi ul Awwal. In a series of letters to key officials, including the Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister, Tessori recommended declaring a public holiday on the 11th of Rabi ul Awwal in addition to the already confirmed 12th of Rabi ul Awwal.
In a separate letter to the chairman of PEMRA, Tessori urged a ban on non-religious programming, such as dance, music, and films, during the holy month. He suggested that TV channels and cable operators shift their focus to educational and religious content, specifically programming that revolves around the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). This, he said, would provide a positive influence on younger generations, promoting moral values and spiritual reflection.
Governor Tessori’s initiatives aim to ensure that the month of Rabi ul Awwal is observed with full religious zeal and respect, creating a deeper connection between the public and the Prophet’s (PBUH) legacy.
