Delay in Pakistan Release Raises Concerns

Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan has spoken out in support of her long-time co-star Fawad Khan, whose highly anticipated Bollywood film Abir Gulaal remains unreleased in Pakistan despite premiering globally on September 12, 2025.

Originally scheduled for release earlier this year, the film has faced multiple postponements, leaving fans uncertain about when it will finally reach local cinemas. According to reports, the delay in Pakistan stems from unidentified issues, sparking frustration among both audiences and industry insiders.

Global Rollout, India Release Postponed

While Abir Gulaal was showcased in 75 countries on its September 12 premiere, its release in India was rescheduled. Indian media reports confirm the film will now debut in Indian cinemas on September 26, 2025, a decision influenced by easing public sentiment after the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match on September 14.

This marks a significant moment, as films featuring Pakistani actors have historically faced hurdles in India due to political tensions and cultural bans.

Fawad Khan Opens Up on Pressure

Reflecting on the challenges surrounding Abir Gulaal, Fawad Khan admitted to being under immense pressure during the film’s journey. Production delays, political sensitivities, and repeated release date changes created uncertainty about whether the movie would reach its global audience.

Despite these hurdles, the film has garnered strong anticipation, particularly because of its cross-border cast and theme of human connection.

Mahira Khan’s Public Statement

In a recent Instagram post, Mahira Khan questioned the pending Pakistan release, expressing frustration on behalf of fans.

Fawad Khan’s Abir Gulaal released worldwide today but its release in Pakistan is still pending. Why?” she asked. She further emphasized that releasing the film domestically would benefit local cinemas and celebrate Pakistan’s talent on the big screen.

Her statement quickly drew attention across social media, amplifying calls for the film’s local release.
