Commuters traveling through Pakistan Railways are set to benefit from a large-scale infrastructure upgrade at Lahore Railway Station, as authorities move forward with plans to modernize access and reduce congestion.
The Punjab government has approved a comprehensive development project aimed at resolving long-standing traffic and parking challenges around the historic station. The initiative is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience and streamline vehicle movement.
One of the central components of the project is the construction of a new parking facility with the capacity to accommodate between 250 and 300 vehicles. This expansion is designed to reduce delays caused by limited parking space and unmanaged vehicle queues.
Officials have identified overcrowding and traffic bottlenecks as major concerns for daily commuters. Poor access planning and insufficient infrastructure have often resulted in extended waiting times, particularly during peak travel hours.
To address these issues, the project includes the development of a dedicated bridge that will provide direct entry to the station for train passengers. This new structure is intended to separate railway-bound vehicles from general city traffic, ensuring smoother flow.
Additional link roads will also be constructed to connect the station with key arteries across Lahore. Authorities are simultaneously planning alternate routes to divert non-railway traffic away from the main entrance, further easing pressure on surrounding roads.
According to officials from the Lahore Development Authority, the project is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed within the designated timeframe. Once operational, the redesigned traffic system is projected to facilitate uninterrupted access for thousands of passengers each day.
Beyond external improvements, Lahore Railway Station has already undergone internal upgrades. Newly established family and VIP lounges are now operational, offering enhanced seating arrangements and improved food services for travelers and their companions.
These developments reflect broader efforts to modernize railway infrastructure and enhance public transport facilities across Punjab. Upon completion, the station is expected to offer a more organized, accessible, and visually appealing environment for passengers.
The initiative underscores the commitment of provincial authorities to upgrading key transport hubs and improving the overall travel experience for railway users.
