Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils Grok 3 with Enhanced Reasoning and Performance
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has introduced its latest flagship AI model, Grok 3, marking a significant advancement in chatbot technology. Launched on February 17, 2025, Grok 3 offers enhanced reasoning capabilities and performance, positioning itself as a formidable competitor in the AI landscape.
Enhanced Computational Power and Training
Grok 3 was developed with a tenfold increase in computing power compared to its predecessor, Grok 2. This substantial boost was achieved using xAI’s expansive data center, Colossus, which houses approximately 200,000 GPUs. The model’s training incorporated an expanded dataset, including legal filings, enabling Grok 3 to outperform other AI models on benchmarks such as AIME for mathematical reasoning and GPQA for PhD-level science problems.
Introduction of Grok 3 Mini
Alongside the primary model, xAI unveiled Grok 3 Mini, a variant designed for faster response times with a slight trade-off in accuracy. This version caters to users requiring prompt interactions without the need for extensive computational resources.
Advanced Reasoning Features
Grok 3 introduces innovative reasoning capabilities, allowing users to engage in complex problem-solving tasks. By activating the “Think” button or the “Big Brain” mode, users can access deeper analytical functions, utilizing additional computing resources for intricate queries. DeepSearch Functionality
The new DeepSearch feature enables Grok 3 to scan the internet and social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), to generate comprehensive summaries in response to user queries. This functionality enhances the chatbot’s ability to provide up-to-date information, rivaling services like OpenAI’s deep research tools.
Accessibility and Subscription Model
Initially, Grok 3 was accessible exclusively to X’s Premium+ and xAI’s SuperGrok subscribers. However, on February 20, 2025, xAI temporarily extended access to all users, allowing a broader audience to experience the model’s capabilities. Concurrently, the Premium+ subscription price increased from $22 to $40 per month.
Voice Mode and Future Developments
xAI plans to introduce a multimodal voice mode for Grok 3 within a week of its launch, expanding the ways users can interact with the AI. Additionally, there are intentions to open-source Grok 2 in the coming months, fostering transparency and collaboration within the AI community.
