On Wednesday, Google began testing a new artificial intelligence feature called News Brief on Google TV. The new feature condenses the day’s most important news headlines using Google’s Gemini technology, allowing users to stay updated. News Brief was first demoed at CES 2025 earlier this month and promises to revolutionize how viewers interact with current events.
As part of its rollout, the News Brief feature will become available to selected users in the United States over time. A Google Community Manager announced on a support page that those selected will see a new addition labeled News Brief on their For You page. The system is supposed to analyze the prominent news of the day and release short narrations over it so the user can avoid scrolling through numerous pages.

Beyond that, users would be able to view relevant videos on YouTube with regard to news topics discussed, which will further be covered with the help of a video. It has been mentioned by Google to users that it will be available from “trusted news sources”, but the companies or channels in question have yet to be defined. Summaries produced by News Brief will change throughout the course of the day as more new information becomes available.
While details on content sourcing remain vague, it is anticipated that the news stories will be derived from YouTube videos. Google has not confirmed whether these updates would be tailored to individual users based on their viewing preferences or search histories, adding an element of curiosity about personalization.
Along with the new feature, Google has eased the way to feedback from the testing stage of Google TV users. Should there be some issue or bugs about the News Brief feature, a user can report it by just turning on his Google Assistant at the remote control and saying “Send feedback.” In addition, the use of smartphones as keyboards is recommended to facilitate feedback processes.
