The Pakistan Olympic Association has confirmed that eight national athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, have been selected to receive Olympic Solidarity Scholarships to prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The announcement marks an important investment in Pakistan’s future sporting talent, offering financial stability during a crucial phase of their careers.

Under the IOC Olympic Solidarity Scholarship programme, each selected athlete will receive USD 13,500 annually from September 2025 until August 2028. The grants will be issued quarterly, ensuring consistent support for training, coaching, equipment, nutrition and participation in international competitions. The programme aims to help emerging and elite athletes build momentum ahead of LA28 by reducing financial barriers that often hinder high-performance development.

Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s celebrated Olympic gold medalist and the nation’s leading javelin thrower, is the only recipient from athletics. He has previously benefited from Olympic Solidarity support, and his inclusion once again reflects the confidence placed in his ability to bring further honor to Pakistan on the world stage. His achievements have already reshaped Pakistan’s presence in global athletics and inspired a new generation of young athletes.

The remaining scholarship holders represent various sporting disciplines, strengthening Pakistan’s multi-sport growth strategy. By supporting a diverse pool of competitors, the POA aims to create a broader pathway for international representation, ensuring that Pakistan is not limited to a small number of events at the Olympic level. The recipients will have access to enhanced training environments, international exposure and high-level coaching—resources essential for competing against some of the world’s best athletes.

Officials stated that the funding will play a critical role in preparing athletes for the demanding four-year Olympic cycle. They emphasized that the programme’s structure enables athletes to focus on their performance instead of financial uncertainties, giving them a better chance of meeting qualification benchmarks for LA28.

The scholarship announcement comes at a time when Pakistan is looking to build on recent sporting achievements and improve its overall competitiveness on global platforms. With Arshad Nadeem already carrying national expectations, the addition of seven more scholarship-supported athletes expands the country’s potential medal prospects.

As preparations for the 2028 Games begin to intensify worldwide, Pakistan’s inclusion in the Olympic Solidarity programme provides a timely boost. The POA expressed confidence that continued support and structured development will translate into stronger performances at major international events in the years leading up to LA28.
