Shift in Smartphone Leadership

In 2024, Apple lost its position as the leading smartphone vendor in China, falling to third place behind local competitors Vivo and Huawei. Apple experienced a 17% annual decline in shipments, marking its most significant drop since 2016. Vivo led the market with a 17% share, followed by Huawei at 16%, and Apple at 15%.

Factors Influencing the Decline

Several factors contributed to this shift, including the absence of advanced AI capabilities in Apple’s latest models and the rising popularity of domestic brands offering innovative features. Huawei’s resurgence, driven by locally-made chipsets and a focus on the premium segment, has intensified competition. In response, Apple has initiated rare discounts to attract consumers and regain its market position.
