A tale of courage and determination: Naila Kiani is a mother who reached Everest in 2023

Naila Kiani is an exceptional woman who has accomplished major milestones within a span of a few years. As a high-altitude mountaineer, she is the first Pakistani woman to conquer six peaks above 8,000 meters.

In the past two years, Kiani reached the summit of Gasherbrum II, standing at an elevation of 8,035 meters, which ranks as the 13th highest mountain in the world as of 2021. In 2022, she was one of only two Pakistani women to climb K2, the second-highest mountain on Earth, towering at 8,611 meters.

During the same year, she also scaled the 8,080-meter peak of Gasherbrum I, marking the 11th-highest mountain globally. Adding to her list of triumphs, Kiani became the first Pakistani woman to conquer Annapurna, the world’s 10th-highest mountain in Nepal, reaching an impressive altitude of 8,091 meters in April 2023. But that wasn’t all—she gained international acclaim for becoming the second Pakistani woman to summit Mount Everest, reaching its formidable 8,848-meter peak in May 2023. Not content with that, Kiani became the first Pakistani woman to successfully climb Mount Lhotse, standing tall at 8,516 meters and ranking as the fourth-highest peak in the world in May.

However, Kiani’s accomplishments extend far beyond mountaineering. She is a multi-talented individual, working as an engineer and excelling in kickboxing.
