Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari has directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Sehr and Iftar throughout the holy month of Ramazan. The move aims to facilitate citizens observing fasting and minimize disruptions during peak hours of religious significance.
The Power Division has issued comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures for all power distribution companies across the country. These directives emphasize prioritizing electricity supply during key Ramazan timings, particularly at Sehr before dawn and Iftar at sunset.
The instructions apply to both public and private sector power companies, including K-Electric. Distribution companies have been asked to ensure system readiness, strengthen monitoring mechanisms, and deploy rapid response teams to address faults without delay.
Officials have been directed to enhance coordination between control centers and field staff to prevent unnecessary outages. Special attention will be given to high-density residential areas, mosques, and commercial markets that experience increased electricity demand during Ramazan evenings.
The government’s directive comes amid rising public expectations for improved service delivery during religious occasions. Ensuring stable power supply during Sehr and Iftar is considered essential, as households rely heavily on electricity for meal preparation, lighting, and cooling.
Authorities have also been instructed to minimize load shedding during designated hours, except in cases of unavoidable technical faults. Monitoring systems will remain active to track compliance with the issued SOPs and address consumer complaints in real time.
Energy experts note that maintaining uninterrupted supply during peak religious hours requires careful load management and grid stability planning. With demand typically surging in the evening, distribution companies must optimize resource allocation to prevent system overload.
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to improving service standards and enhancing consumer convenience during Ramazan. Citizens will be closely observing implementation on the ground as the holy month approaches.
