Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad officially took oath as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan during a ceremony held at the Governor House in Gilgit on Wednesday. The oath was administered by Governor Syed Mehdi Shah, marking the beginning of the caretaker administration responsible for overseeing the region’s governance during the interim period.
The event drew a strong presence of political leaders, senior officials and representatives of the federal government. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam was among the prominent attendees, underscoring the significance of the transition in the mountainous region.
After the ceremony, Caretaker CM Yar Muhammad held a meeting with Governor Syed Mehdi Shah. Federal Minister Amir Muqam also joined the discussion as the leadership reviewed the regional situation, administrative responsibilities and governance priorities for the caretaker tenure.
During the meeting, Amir Muqam congratulated the newly appointed caretaker chief minister and expressed confidence that the interim setup would ensure transparency, administrative continuity and effective governance in Gilgit-Baltistan. He highlighted the importance of an impartial caretaker administration as the region moves toward its next political phase.

Governor Mehdi Shah emphasized that development initiatives and public welfare projects in Gilgit-Baltistan require close coordination with the federal government. He reiterated that ongoing and upcoming development schemes must continue without disruption to support economic progress, tourism growth and community welfare across the region.
Caretaker CM Justice (retd) Yar Muhammad assured that his administration would prioritize neutrality, professionalism and public interest in all state matters. He stated that maintaining good governance and ensuring smooth administrative functioning would remain central goals during his time in office.
As Gilgit-Baltistan enters its caretaker period, the focus now shifts to administrative stability, continuity of governance and preparation for the electoral process. The appointment of Justice Yar Muhammad brings renewed attention to the region’s political landscape and its development trajectory.
