PIA Engineers' Protest Disrupts Flights Amid Salary Dispute

Second Day of Strikes Leads to Flight Cancellations and Delays

The protest by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft engineers over unpaid salary increments and administrative grievances entered its second day on Wednesday, causing significant disruptions. Seven flights were canceled, while 39 others faced delays across the country. The strike, led by the Aircraft Engineers’ Association, reflects growing frustration among engineers regarding the airline’s management policies and alleged mistreatment by the CEO.

Engineers Demand Fair Treatment as Management Issues Warnings

The Aircraft Engineers’ Association President stated that engineers are protesting due to the management’s unresponsiveness to their demands. Meanwhile, PIA’s administration warned that disruptions would not be tolerated. A spokesperson confirmed that contingency plans are in place to minimize passenger inconvenience but emphasized that essential operations must continue without interruption.

CEO Threatens Legal Action Under Essential Services Act

The PIA CEO has reportedly issued strict warnings against protesting engineers, citing the Essential Services Act, which prohibits strikes in critical sectors. The airline’s management declared the engineers’ association as unauthorized, accusing it of attempting to sabotage PIA’s privatization process. Legal action may be taken against employees participating in the work stoppage.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status Amid Ongoing Disruptions

Despite the protest, PIA officials have worked to maintain essential operations, though delays persist. Passengers are advised to check flight schedules regularly for updates. The standoff between engineers and management continues, raising concerns over long-term impacts on PIA’s operational stability.
