The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has urged citizens to promptly update their marital status in the national database after obtaining a computerised marriage certificate from the Union Council. The update, officials say, is crucial for maintaining accurate family records and preventing administrative complications in the future.
According to NADRA, updating one’s marital status helps ensure smooth processing of important documents such as children’s B-Forms, Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), passports, and Family Registration Certificates (FRCs). It also plays an essential role in obtaining Succession Certificates without delays.
Officials have emphasized that keeping personal information up to date strengthens record accuracy within the national identity system, ensuring citizens’ data remains valid for both domestic and international purposes.
To update their marital status, citizens can visit the nearest NADRA Registration Centre or use the Pak-ID mobile application, which allows for digital updates from the comfort of home.
NADRA, Pakistan’s central authority for identity management, issues several vital documents including the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), Smart National Identity Card (SNIC), Child Registration Certificate (CRC), Family Registration Certificate (FRC), Pakistan Origin Card (POC), and National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). The organisation also provides verification and authentication services for these documents.
In recent years, NADRA has introduced several digital innovations to make public services more efficient. Through the Pak-ID mobile application, citizens can now apply for CNICs, renew their identity cards, upload required documents, complete biometric verification, and track application status — all online.
The app also includes a “Proof of Life” feature for pensioners, allowing retired citizens to verify their status remotely and continue receiving benefits without visiting government offices. NADRA is also expanding self-service kiosks and registration counters in major cities to improve accessibility.
These advancements reflect the organisation’s broader goal of leveraging technology for citizen convenience and building a more efficient, transparent public service model.
In another move aimed at supporting overseas Pakistanis, NADRA recently abolished the cancellation fee for NICOP in the event of a death. Immediate family members can now cancel the NICOP of a deceased relative free of charge by registering the death with the relevant Union Council or Pakistani embassy. This can also be done digitally through the Pak-ID mobile app, without the need to submit the physical card.
Such initiatives show NADRA’s ongoing commitment to improving service delivery, ensuring accessibility, and creating a streamlined process for citizens both within Pakistan and abroad.
