Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his address in London, emphasized that Pakistan’s political and military leadership are fully aligned on all major issues, including foreign policy, economy, and national security. He stated that both institutions are working together with sincerity and unity to steer the country toward progress.
Civil-Military Coordination and Unity
The prime minister underscored the importance of consultations between civilian leaders and military leadership on all critical matters. He stressed that this harmony is essential for overcoming past setbacks and achieving new milestones for Pakistan.
Acknowledging the role of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, PM Shehbaz lauded him as a nationalist leader who prioritizes Pakistan’s interests above all else. He described the army chief as a man of vision and bravery, crediting him for strengthening both the army and the air force.
Diplomatic Engagements and Trump’s Mediation
Shehbaz Sharif also reflected on his recent diplomatic visits to the United States and Saudi Arabia. He shared that Pakistan had nominated former US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize due to his mediation efforts in global conflicts, including the DRC, Ethiopia-Egypt tensions, and Ukraine.
The prime minister acknowledged Trump’s role in preventing a major war in South Asia and referred to him as a “man of peace.” He expressed hope that continued engagement with world leaders would bring positive outcomes for global stability, particularly regarding the Gaza ceasefire.
Strengthening Ties with Saudi Arabia
Discussing the newly signed Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) with Saudi Arabia, PM Shehbaz clarified that the pact is not directed against any country. Instead, it is a formalization of the deep-rooted ties between the two brotherly nations.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s foreign policy focus is on economic development rather than power struggles. He highlighted opportunities in agriculture, artificial intelligence, minerals, and skill development for the youth as key drivers of future prosperity.
Advocacy for Palestine and Kashmir
At the United Nations General Assembly, the premier said Pakistan effectively raised its voice in support of Palestine and Kashmir. He condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and praised the courage of Pakistan’s armed forces, which, under the leadership of General Munir, had demonstrated excellence both in conventional and defensive capabilities.
He noted that the international community had recognized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and defense, particularly after the Marka-e-Haq, where India faced a setback.
Revitalizing Pakistan-US Relations
Shehbaz Sharif described his meetings with former President Trump as highly productive, noting that discussions covered trade, investment, IT, artificial intelligence, energy, and mineral resources. He highlighted Trump’s assurances of accelerating economic cooperation, which could significantly benefit Pakistan’s economic revival.
Addressing Terrorism and Economic Stability
On the issue of terrorism, the prime minister admitted that previous policy missteps had allowed extremist groups like TTP, BLA, and Majeed Brigade to regroup. However, he assured that Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies are actively dismantling these networks to ensure peace.
Turning to the economy, Shehbaz noted that while macro-level stability had been achieved, challenges remained. He emphasized the urgent need to rebuild after devastating floods, which caused widespread destruction and loss of life. Calling for collective willpower, he stressed that with international support and domestic determination, Pakistan could overcome its difficulties and achieve lasting progress.
