In a groundbreaking development for Pakistan’s space exploration ambitions, a Pakistani astronaut is set to become the first foreign national to join China’s Tiangong Space Station. This milestone was formalized through a cooperation agreement signed on February 28, 2025, between the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO) and the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). The signing ceremony, witnessed by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marks a significant leap in bilateral space collaboration and underscores China’s commitment to international cooperation in space exploration. β
A Pioneering Endeavor
Under the terms of the agreement, the Chinese government will undertake the selection and training of Pakistani astronauts. The training program, expected to span approximately one year, will be conducted at China’s Astronaut Center.
