Pakistan Mutual Fund Industry Adds Rs. 520 Billion as Assets Reach Rs. 4.72 Trillion

Pakistan’s mutual fund industry recorded an increase of Rs. 520 billion in assets over the past year, taking total assets under management (AUM) to Rs. 4.72 trillion by the end of September 2026. Despite the expansion, the industry experienced slower year-on-year growth compared with the stronger performance recorded during the previous two years.

According to data released by the Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP), total assets under management increased by 12.4 percent from Rs. 4.20 trillion in September 2025 to Rs. 4.72 trillion in September 2026.

The latest figures indicate that Pakistan’s mutual fund sector continues to expand, although the pace of growth has moderated. The industry added Rs. 520 billion in assets during the 12-month period, reflecting a smaller annual increase than the amount recorded in the preceding year.

Between September 2024 and September 2025, mutual fund assets increased by approximately Rs. 1.15 trillion. During that period, total assets rose from Rs. 3.05 trillion to Rs. 4.20 trillion, highlighting a substantially stronger expansion than the latest annual performance.

The comparison shows a clear slowdown in the rate at which the industry’s assets have grown. While the sector continued to attract or retain investment and benefited from changes in asset valuations, the available figures alone do not establish the precise reasons behind the moderation.

Mutual funds are investment vehicles that pool money from multiple investors and allocate it across different financial instruments. Depending on their investment objectives, these funds may invest in government securities, money market instruments, bonds, equities, and other eligible assets.

In Pakistan, mutual funds provide individuals and institutions with access to professionally managed investment options. They can offer an alternative to selecting individual securities, although their returns and risk levels vary according to the type of fund and the underlying investments.

Assets under management are an important measure of the size of the mutual fund industry. Changes in AUM can reflect several factors, including investor deposits and withdrawals, investment performance, and movements in the market value of portfolio holdings.

Consequently, an increase in total assets does not necessarily mean that the entire amount represents fresh investment. Similarly, slower AUM growth does not automatically indicate that investors are withdrawing money from the industry.

The latest data places Pakistan’s mutual fund sector at a total asset value of Rs. 4.72 trillion, underlining its significant presence in the country’s financial market. The pace of future growth will depend on investor confidence, market conditions, investment returns, and the attractiveness of available savings products.

Economic conditions and financial market developments can influence how households and institutions allocate their savings. Investors generally consider factors such as expected returns, liquidity, inflation, and risk when choosing between mutual funds and other investment options.

For individuals considering mutual funds, it is important to understand that different categories serve different financial needs. Money market funds may suit investors prioritising relatively lower volatility, while equity funds typically involve greater market risk. Returns are not guaranteed, and investors should review fund documents and applicable fees before investing.

The latest figures from MUFAP provide an overview of the industry’s growth over the past year. Although the addition of Rs. 520 billion represents continued expansion, the slower increase compared with the previous annual period highlights a change in the sector’s growth momentum.

Pakistan’s mutual fund industry will remain an important part of the country’s investment landscape as investors assess their options and financial institutions compete to provide suitable savings and investment products.
