Three Pakistani cargo vessels remained stranded around the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, according to official documents from Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
The documents stated that vessels operated by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation were already present in the Gulf region before tensions escalated into a broader conflict. The affected ships included MT Karachi, MT P1 Leki, and MT Multan.
According to officials, the vessels initially faced difficulties crossing the Strait of Hormuz due to heightened security restrictions and operational disruptions caused by the regional war situation. The waterway is considered one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, handling a major share of global energy shipments.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs confirmed that diplomatic efforts later helped secure clearance for MT Karachi, allowing the vessel to resume its eastbound journey on March 15. However, disruptions in maritime traffic reportedly continued to affect tanker movement through the region.
The Strait of Hormuz plays a critical role in international trade and energy supply chains, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea. Any instability in the area can significantly impact global oil markets, shipping operations, and fuel prices worldwide.
Experts say escalating tensions in the region have increased risks for commercial shipping companies operating near the Gulf. Security concerns, naval monitoring, and possible operational delays have forced many shipping operators to reassess routes and schedules.
Pakistan, which heavily depends on imported petroleum products, closely monitors developments in the region because disruptions in tanker movement can directly affect domestic fuel supplies and import costs. Rising uncertainty in maritime trade routes may also increase shipping insurance and transportation expenses.
The situation has highlighted the strategic importance of maritime security and diplomatic coordination during regional conflicts. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring Pakistani vessels operating near sensitive international waterways to ensure safe passage and uninterrupted trade activity.
