Saudi Arabia is set to host the inaugural Olympic Esports Games in 2025, as announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This landmark event will be a significant step for Saudi Arabia, affirming its position as a global hub for esports. The IOC has entered into a 12-year partnership with the Saudi National Olympic Committee, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s growing influence and expertise in the esports sector.
The decision to host the Olympic Esports Games in Saudi Arabia has been approved by the IOC’s executive office and will be presented at the 143rd IOC session in Paris, which coincides with the Summer Olympic Games. Further details about the event will be released following the session. Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sports and SOPC Chairman, attributed this achievement to the unwavering support from the Kingdom’s leadership, particularly HRH the Crown Prince, which has enabled Saudi sports authorities to secure international events.
Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz emphasized the unprecedented growth in Saudi Arabia’s sports sector, especially in esports, and underscored the historic nature of the partnership between the IOC and the SOPC. This collaboration is expected to propel Olympic sports into a new era, integrating esports into the Olympic movement.
IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with the SOPC, praising Saudi Arabia’s expertise and commitment to innovation in esports. This event marks the first Olympic Esports Games, showcasing the Kingdom’s capability to host major global sporting events. Saudi Arabia’s track record of successfully hosting large-scale esports tournaments played a crucial role in this decision.
