Saudi Arabia has introduced same-day visa processing for Pakistani citizens at its embassy in Islamabad, a development expected to make the visa application process faster for eligible applicants.
The announcement came alongside discussions between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on expanding cooperation in key economic sectors, including oil storage, refinery upgrades, energy supplies and mineral resources.
These developments were announced following a meeting between Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqami.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations, with particular attention to cooperation in mining, petroleum and the wider energy sector.
The introduction of same-day visa processing is a notable development for Pakistani citizens who need to travel to Saudi Arabia. Faster processing at the embassy in Islamabad could help eligible applicants complete the visa process more conveniently.
However, applicants should confirm the relevant visa category, documentation requirements, appointment procedures and eligibility conditions before visiting the embassy. Same-day processing should not automatically be understood as a guarantee of visa approval.
Beyond the visa-related development, discussions also focused on strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries. Oil storage and refinery upgrades were among the areas highlighted during the meeting.
Pakistan has been exploring opportunities to improve its energy infrastructure, secure reliable supplies and attract investment in the petroleum sector. Cooperation with Saudi Arabia could provide opportunities for investment and technical collaboration in these areas.
Mineral resources and mining were also part of the discussions, reflecting the broader interest in expanding economic ties beyond traditional energy cooperation.
Saudi Arabia remains an important economic partner for Pakistan, with both countries maintaining longstanding relations across trade, investment, energy and other sectors.
The latest meeting indicates continued efforts to identify new areas of cooperation. Any future projects involving oil storage, refinery modernisation, energy supplies or mineral development will depend on further discussions and the arrangements agreed by both governments.
The combination of faster visa processing and renewed economic discussions highlights the multiple dimensions of Pakistan-Saudi relations, covering both people-to-people connections and strategic economic cooperation.
