PPP Condemns Indian Film 'Dhurandhar' for Misusing Benazir Bhutto's Image

Party Denounces Alleged Misrepresentation of Bhutto’s Legacy

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly criticized the recently released Indian spy thriller ‘Dhurandhar’ for misusing images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Sumeta Afzal Syed, PPP spokesperson and member of the Sindh Task Force, accused the film of wrongfully portraying the party as sympathetic to terrorism, calling it a malicious distortion of Bhutto’s political legacy.

PPP Rejects Allegations of Extremist Sympathy

Syed emphasized that the PPP has been a victim of terrorism itself and has always been a vocal opponent of extremism. She stated, “The PPP has been a frontline victim of terrorism and has always stood — and will always stand — as the strongest force against extremism.” The party condemned the film’s attempt to link Bhutto’s legacy with terrorist ideologies, demanding immediate action against the misrepresentation.

Film Faces Backlash for Historical Inaccuracies

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna and is based on the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. The movie has already faced criticism for exaggerating Pakistan’s political history and presenting a biased narrative about regional conflicts. The inclusion of Bhutto’s image without context has further fueled controversy, with critics calling it propaganda-driven storytelling.

PPP Calls for Government Intervention

The PPP has urged the Pakistani government to take diplomatic notice of the issue, arguing that the film deliberately targets Bhutto’s international reputation as a democratic leader. The party’s statement highlights concerns over Indian media’s portrayal of Pakistani political figures, calling for stricter scrutiny of cross-border cultural content.
