Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has left Pakistan State Oil (PSO) exposed, with Rs. 30 billion in unpaid dues despite the airline’s recent sale to the Arif Habib-led consortium for Rs. 135 billion.

PSO approached the federal government seeking the transfer of PIA’s Islamabad real estate to recover the outstanding payments for jet fuel supplied to the national carrier. Discussions have taken place between PSO and PIA regarding the land transfer, but the asset has yet to be handed over.

According to official figures, the total receivables from PIA now stand at Rs. 30.15 billion, which includes both the principal amount and late payment surcharges. The unpaid dues have raised concerns about financial management and asset recovery following the airline’s privatization.

The situation highlights ongoing challenges in clearing government-owned company debts and ensuring accountability in the sale of state assets. PSO officials emphasize the importance of prompt resolution to secure payments for essential fuel supplies.

With the PIA privatization process moving forward, monitoring the settlement of these outstanding dues will remain a priority for both PSO and the federal authorities.
