Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended eight passenger train services as the department struggles with rising diesel prices, growing operational expenses, and declining passenger numbers.

According to railway officials, the decision was taken as part of cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing financial pressure caused by increasing fuel costs. The suspension affects several major passenger routes operating across different parts of the country.

The train services halted include the Bolan Mail, Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, Mehran Express, Chaman Passenger, Marvi Express, and Samn Sarkar Express. In addition, the Monjodaro Express and Ravi Express have also been temporarily suspended to help lower fuel consumption and operational spending.

Pakistan Railways has faced persistent financial challenges in recent years, including high maintenance costs, fuel price hikes, infrastructure issues, and reduced passenger demand on certain routes. Officials say the latest move is intended to improve resource management and minimize losses until operational conditions stabilize.

The increase in diesel prices has significantly impacted transportation sectors across Pakistan, with railway operations particularly affected due to heavy fuel consumption on long-distance routes. Reduced passenger turnout on some services has further added to the department’s financial difficulties.

Passengers who regularly travel through the affected routes may now have to rely on alternative train services or road transport options. Railway authorities have not yet announced a timeline for the restoration of the suspended trains, but officials indicated that services could resume once operational conditions improve.

Transport analysts believe the decision reflects the broader economic pressures currently affecting public transport institutions in Pakistan. Rising fuel costs continue to create challenges for maintaining affordable and sustainable transportation services nationwide.

Pakistan Railways remains one of the country’s key public transport networks, connecting major cities and remote regions through an extensive rail system used by millions of passengers annually.
