AI Technology to Enhance Immigration Control
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the launch of an artificial intelligence-based application as a pilot project to tackle illegal immigration and fake travel documents. The decision was made during a high-level meeting co-chaired by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, where both officials reviewed proposed immigration reforms.
Naqvi stated that the AI-powered tool would enable authorities to determine travelers’ eligibility, helping to identify individuals attempting to travel illegally. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against visa fraud and agent mafias involved in facilitating unlawful migration.
Crackdown on Fake Visas and Agent Networks
The meeting resulted in key decisions to stamp out fraudulent travel practices, including:
- Strict action against individuals using forged documents
- A nationwide crackdown on networks supplying fake visas
- Foolproof measures for issuing Protector (emigration) clearances
- Cancellation of passports for deported individuals, ensuring they cannot obtain visas again
Federal ministers directed officials to finalize reform recommendations within seven days to streamline and secure the immigration process.
Reforms to Improve Pakistan’s Global Reputation
Naqvi stressed that the new measures aim to enhance passenger convenience while improving Pakistan’s international standing. He revealed plans to introduce a uniform international driving license through the National Police Bureau and mentioned ongoing discussions with other nations to boost the credibility of the green passport.
The minister warned that illegal immigration harms Pakistan’s global image and reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing such activities.
Focus on Authentic Documentation for Labor Migrants
Chaudhry Salik Hussain highlighted the importance of verifying labor visa documentation to ensure authenticity. He pledged full cooperation from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis to implement improvements in the Protector and immigration systems, safeguarding both travelers and the country’s reputation.
