In a pioneering move, Pakistan is gearing up to host the Asia-Pacific region’s largest Meta Llama Hackathon. This event, organized by the National Incubation Center for Aerospace Technologies (NICAT) in collaboration with the Ministry of IT&T and Ignite National Technology Fund, aims to explore the immense potential of artificial intelligence (AI) using Meta’s advanced Llama 2 and Llama 3 models.
NICAT: The Epicenter of Aerospace and DeepTech Innovation
NICAT, a leading center for Aerospace and DeepTech innovation in Pakistan, is taking the lead in this groundbreaking initiative. As a joint venture involving Ignite NTF, MoITT, and the National Aerospace and Science Technologies Park (NASTP), NICAT is well-positioned to drive the development of AI solutions that can revolutionize various industries. NASTP, guided by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), serves as a nationwide network of Science and Technology Parks dedicated to advancing aerospace and scientific innovation.
The Potential of Generative AI
Generative AI, represented by Meta’s Llama models, has the capability to transform industries such as healthcare, finance, and beyond. With over 180 million downloads, Llama 2 and Llama 3 are leading the charge in this AI renaissance. The hackathon seeks to harness this potential, enabling innovators to devise solutions that tackle critical challenges and unlock new possibilities.

The Meta Llama Hackathon is more than just a competition; it serves as a platform for innovation and collaboration. Winners will be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore for the Regional Finals, sponsored by Meta. The hackathon will be judged by an esteemed panel of experts, including Muhammad Rashid Mukhtar, Dr. Muhammad Usman, Zeeshan Qedwaee, Ammar Jaffri, Barira Hanif, and Dr. Adnan-ul-Hasan. Their diverse expertise ensures a thorough evaluation of the proposals based on technical feasibility, impact, and responsible use of AI.

The Semi-Finals will be held on August 20, 2024, at NICAT Islamabad. Hackathon winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore for the Regional Finals, sponsored by Meta. The Finals will be organized on October 02, 2024, in Singapore, with prize money of up to $100,000. This includes travel and accommodation, offering winners a global platform to showcase their innovations, connect with international industry leaders, and gain valuable exposure.
