Google’s AI-based products and services contributed a whopping Rs. 3.9 trillion to Pakistan’s economy in 2023 – an increase of 222% from 2020. Google tools, says the report “ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT: Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy,” helped local businesses digitize and gain easy access to global markets, driving this tremendous growth.
Google’s Search, Ads, YouTube, Play, and Cloud platforms contributed Rs. 2.6 trillion to the economy in 2023. Rs. 1.5 trillion or 58% of the gross benefits were incurred by SMBs and grew from the previous year at a rate of 159%. The digital export activities of Pakistan’s advertising solutions and app publication tools have also been proven to bring about an estimated export benefit of Rs. 249 billion.
Other than businesses, Google’s products contributed positively to the increase in the earnings of households in Pakistan. In 2023, Rs. 1.3 trillion came from Google’s products to the earnings of the household. This increased to 526% from 2020. Products like Search, Maps, YouTube, and Google Drive have helped Pakistanis find information, manage work, and access the rest of the world. YouTube has also made content development open to monetization and widened it further with an audience, of whom 55% is international-based.
According to Google Workspace, productivity has further increased as there are fewer times for a meeting with the ease of document distribution. Also, AI model Gemini, previously known as Bard, provokes creativity and a productive workforce across all industries.
It is Google that seeks digital exports free digital skills training and AI-driven products, which will upgrade Pakistan to a digital global economy. Pakistan shall benefit from this through the help of digital technologies to exploit newfound opportunities for inclusive and sustainable growth of its people.
