The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), under the leadership of Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, is taking steps to directly transfer funds to the bank accounts of deserving women. This significant move aims to ensure that BISP beneficiaries can access their stipends more efficiently, transparently, and with greater dignity.
This initiative comes as part of a broader directive from President Asif Ali Zardari and in coordination with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). By transferring funds directly to beneficiaries’ accounts, BISP aims to reduce the challenges and delays faced by women in accessing their entitled payments.
Speaking at the BISP office in Chilas, Rubina Khalid emphasized the importance of this step, stressing that there would be zero tolerance for any deductions from the stipends or mistreatment of deserving women. The BISP Call Center has also been modernized with a dedicated helpline (0800-26477) to address any complaints or issues beneficiaries might face.
Expansion of Mobile Registration and New Skill Training Program
Acknowledging the travel difficulties faced by women in remote areas, Senator Khalid highlighted the need for Mobile Registration Vans to facilitate easy registration. She added that a request has been made to the federal government to increase the number of these vans, ensuring BISP registration becomes accessible in even the most remote areas.
Senator Khalid also shared updates on several BISP initiatives, including the Benazir Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, and Nashonuma programs. Furthermore, she announced the upcoming Benazir Skill Training Program, which is aimed at equipping deserving women and their families with vocational skills to improve their quality of life and contribute to the national economy.
During her visit to the BISP Chilas office, Rubina Khalid personally met with beneficiaries, listened to their concerns, and assured them of swift resolution to their issues. She also took part in the BISP tree-planting initiative, planting a sapling as part of the Green Pakistan-Benazir Pakistan campaign, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.
