Pakistan has achieved a top score in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Global Cybersecurity Index 2024, earning a place among the world’s top-tier cybersecurity performers. The report, which evaluates the cybersecurity preparedness of countries globally, has placed Pakistan in the highest tier, reflecting its role-model status in cybersecurity practices.
The Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) assesses nations across five tiers, ranging from Tier 1 (Role-Modelling) to Tier 5 (Building). These tiers are determined by scores in several categories, including legal, technical, and organizational measures, as well as capacity development and international cooperation efforts.
Pakistan Ranks in Tier 1: A Role Model for Cybersecurity
In the latest report, Pakistan ranked in Tier 1, scoring between 95-100, alongside other top-performing countries such as Australia, the United States, Germany, Bahrain, and Italy. The country’s performance in cybersecurity has significantly improved, especially compared to its previous ranking of 79 in the last edition of the report.
The report highlights that Pakistan’s legal measures scored a perfect 20/20, while organizational measures and capacity development also reached maximum scores. The technical measures and cooperation efforts earned scores of 18.21 and 18.48, respectively, demonstrating the country’s dedication to enhancing its cybersecurity infrastructure.
Recognition and Commendation
The results have drawn praise from Shaza Fatima Khawaja, State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, who lauded Pakistan’s efforts in strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities. “Pakistan’s exceptional performance places it among countries like the United States, Singapore, Japan, and Australia, proving our commitment to implementing essential cybersecurity measures and cooperation frameworks,” said Khawaja.
This impressive ranking signals that Pakistan has made significant strides in securing its digital landscape and is now seen as a global leader in cybersecurity.
Pakistan’s Cybersecurity Journey
In recent years, Pakistan has focused on enhancing its cybersecurity defenses, including the establishment of incident response teams, implementing robust legal frameworks, and boosting international collaboration on cybersecurity issues. This dedication has culminated in its rise to the Tier 1 ranking, a prestigious position shared by only a select group of countries globally.
As digital threats continue to evolve, Pakistan’s ranking in the Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 reflects its commitment to maintaining a secure and resilient digital environment.
