New Mobile App Streamlines Biometric Verification
The Australian government has launched a simplified visa application process for Pakistani citizens, making it easier to obtain visas through a newly introduced mobile application. Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tim Kane, announced the update via social media, emphasizing that eligible applicants can now upload passport details and facial biometrics using their smartphones.
Australian Immi App Now Available in Pakistan
The Australian Immi App, already operational in multiple countries, has been extended to Pakistan to expedite visa processing. According to the High Commission, the app eliminates the need for multiple visits to visa centers, reducing both time and costs. However, it is currently only available to applicants who have received a biometrics instruction letter with a Visa Lodgement Number (VLN) starting with AUI or AUH. Those with different codes must still visit an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC) in person.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using the App
To use the app, applicants need a valid passport and a smartphone with a stable internet connection, camera access, NFC capability, and enabled location services. The application process involves five key steps:
- Entering the VLN – Each family member must input their unique Visa Lodgement Number.
- Scanning the Passport – The app uses the phone’s camera and NFC to read passport details.
- Verifying Passport Information – Users must confirm the scanned details for accuracy.
- Taking a Live Photo – A clear, well-lit facial image is required for identity verification.
- Submitting the Application – Once submitted, data is sent directly to Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, with no personal information stored on the app.
If all steps are completed correctly, applicants will receive an update in their ImmiAccount within 24 hours, eliminating the need for an in-person visit.
