Harvey Weinstein's Conviction Challenged Over Jury Misconduct Claims

Defense Alleges Jury Room Intimidation

Harvey Weinstein’s legal team has filed a motion to overturn his recent sexual assault conviction, citing alleged misconduct during jury deliberations. In court documents, defense attorneys argue the verdict was compromised by “threats, intimidation, and extraneous bias” among jurors. The filing includes sworn statements from two panel members who claim they voted guilty under duress from fellow jurors.

Jurors Describe Pressure to Convict

Two members of the jury have come forward with allegations of intense pressure during deliberations. One juror reported being screamed at by others demanding a conviction, with one juror allegedly stating, “we have to get rid of you.” Another juror stated they would have voted “not guilty on all three charges” if allowed a secret ballot, adding, “I regret the verdict” and believing the jury would have deadlocked without the alleged coercion.

Weinstein’s Legal Battles Continue

The disgraced Hollywood producer’s conviction marked a pivotal moment in the #MeToo movement. His 2020 conviction was overturned last year, leading to the recent retrial that resulted in another guilty verdict. Judge Curtis Farber is set to rule on the defense’s motion to dismiss the conviction on December 22. The decision could determine whether Weinstein faces a potential third trial.

Timeline for Legal Resolution

Prosecutors have until November 10 to respond to the defense’s claims before Judge Farber issues his December ruling. The timing ensures the outcome will be decided after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s November 4 reelection bid, keeping the legal and political implications in focus.
