Adobe's New Features in Photoshop Will Save Creators Hours on Edits

Adobe’s new features are set to change the way creators edit images in Photoshop. The company has announced a series of AI-driven tools powered by its Firefly models, including Generative Upscale, Harmonize, and an enhanced Object Removal tool. These tools are now available in beta on Photoshop for desktop and web, with early access to Harmonize on iOS.

Adobe’s new features focus on time-saving automation

One of the biggest additions is Generative Upscale, which allows users to upscale images up to 8 megapixels. Adobe says this feature will be particularly useful for restoring old photographs, creating large-format prints, or preparing assets for multiple digital platforms.

The new Harmonize capability, previously known as Project Perfect Blend, takes Photoshop’s object blending a step further. Users can now insert an object into a scene, remove its background, and automatically adjust lighting, color, and shadows so it matches the existing image seamlessly.

Another major update is the improved Object Removal tool. Adobe has redesigned the algorithm to fill removed areas with accurate background details, rather than creating unwanted artifacts. “The updated version removed the object effectively and filled the space with the background,” said Joel Baer, Adobe Photoshop’s product management director, while demonstrating how the upgraded tool cleaned up an image compared to the previous version.

Streamlined workflows and more creative control

Beyond these flagship tools, Adobe’s new features also include updates that help creators stay organized, such as a more efficient system for placing assets in shared, structured areas. Users will also be able to select which version of the Firefly model they wish to use when working with Photoshop’s AI-powered tools, giving them greater creative control.

Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of product management for Photoshop, said the updates aim to reduce editing friction: “These new features will help them save time, remove friction from their workflows, and take on some of the time-consuming tasks on their behalf.”

The Generative Upscale, Harmonize, and improved Object Removal tools are now live in beta, making Adobe’s new features some of the most user-focused updates in recent years.
