Squid Game Season 2 Set to Be Released on December 26, Actor Lee Jung-jae Tells What to Expect

Ahead of the release of Season 2 of Squid Game on December 26, lead star Lee Jung-jae has addressed what audiences can expect from the lead character Seong Gi-hun.

Speaking to People, the Emmy-winning actor talked about the change in his role, saying that it carried an emotional weight in playing Gi-hun this time. “In season one, Gi-hun was a more positive and cheerful character. It was fun and enjoyable to bring that energy to life,” Lee shared. “But in season two, the character is entirely different. It made my heart quite heavy.”

The actor said preparing for the trauma of the character was challenging. He received tough questions from the crew on how deeply to delve into Gi-hun’s pain and mission. “Should I go deeper? Should I be sharper? Or should I focus on ending the game? It gave me a lot of stress,” Lee admitted.

Lee mentioned that in the next season, Gi-hun needed more physical and mental effort for his emotional sensitivity. “This time, he physically feels the aches. Playing such a sensitive character took a lot out of me,” he concluded.

Season two of Squid Game is expected to be an even more poignant follow-up to Gi-hun’s journey as he tries to come to terms with the traumatic aftermath of surviving the deadly games. With Lee Jung-jae’s award-winning performance anchoring the series, fans can look forward to another gripping installment of the global phenomenon when it premieres on Netflix later this month.
