The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) recorded its largest monthly increase in investors in September 2026, with 25,281 new investors joining the market during the month.
The latest addition took the total number of investors at the PSX to 656,218, marking a significant expansion in participation in Pakistan’s capital market.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the record increase while speaking at a gong ceremony held at the Pakistan Stock Exchange to mark the listing of Naya Nazimabad Apartments REIT.
According to the finance minister, the number of PSX investors has more than doubled over the past two and a half years. The investor base increased from 321,144 in March 2024 to 656,218 by September 2026.
The expansion represents an increase of more than 335,000 investors during the period, reflecting greater participation in the country’s stock market.
Aurangzeb also pointed to the movement of the KSE-100 Index during the same period. He said the benchmark index had increased from around 67,000 points in March 2024 to approximately 170,000 points in September 2026.
The growth in investor participation comes alongside increased activity in new listings on the stock exchange. The finance minister said 11 companies entered the market during fiscal year 2026, making it the highest number of new listings recorded in more than two decades.
The momentum continued into the following fiscal year. Five initial public offerings, or IPOs, had already been completed during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, according to the figures shared by the finance minister.
The increase in new investors and listings highlights the expanding role of Pakistan’s capital market in connecting businesses with potential sources of financing.
Speaking about the broader objective, Aurangzeb said the capital market should be used to support business activity, infrastructure development, housing projects, innovation and employment generation.
The record monthly addition of investors also comes as Pakistan’s financial markets continue to attract greater attention from individuals and institutions. A larger investor base can increase participation in listed companies and broaden access to equity-market investment.
The listing of Naya Nazimabad Apartments REIT also reflects the use of capital-market structures for real estate and housing-related projects. Real Estate Investment Trusts, commonly known as REITs, provide a framework through which investors can participate in property-related investments through listed securities.
The September figures provide a notable snapshot of investor participation at the PSX. With 25,281 new investors added in a single month, the exchange reached its highest monthly increase in new investors, taking its overall investor base beyond the 650,000 mark.
The longer-term figures also show the scale of the change. From 321,144 investors in March 2024 to 656,218 in September 2026, the PSX investor base has more than doubled according to the data presented by the finance minister.
The combination of rising investor participation, new company listings and IPO activity is placing greater attention on Pakistan’s capital market as a source of business and development financing.
The latest PSX figures are expected to remain an important indicator of market participation as Pakistan continues efforts to expand investment opportunities and strengthen the role of the capital market in economic activity.
