Internet services in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, and its twin city, Rawalpindi, were partially restored recently after days of disruptions. These outages were initially imposed as part of security measures during a major protest organized by a political party.
Despite the restoration of mobile services, mobile data remains unavailable in certain areas, leaving residents inconvenienced, particularly those dependent on internet access for work and communication.
The disruptions extended beyond Islamabad and Rawalpindi, affecting regions like Karachi and parts of Punjab, where connectivity issues caused significant frustration among users. The suspension of services was reportedly targeted at minimizing security risks and preventing the spread of misinformation during high-tension events.
Protests in the capital also led to closures of major roads, including Faizabad and Murree Road, disrupting daily life and essential services. Markets and public transport systems like the Metro Bus were also impacted, compounding challenges for the local population.
As authorities continue to manage ongoing protests, the gradual resumption of connectivity has brought some relief to the affected citizens. However, the lingering absence of mobile data in several zones highlights the persistent challenges faced by many in navigating these disruptions.
