Comprehensive Network Security Overhaul Underway
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated a significant firewall renewal and upgrade project to bolster its cybersecurity infrastructure. With an estimated budget ranging between Rs. 40 million to Rs. 120 million, this initiative aims to protect critical digital systems from evolving cyber threats. The project’s cost will vary based on selected firewall models, subscription periods, and deployment scope across PTA’s operations.
Next-Generation Firewalls to Enhance Digital Protection
The upgrade involves replacing existing network security systems at PTA Headquarters and regional offices with advanced Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs). These sophisticated systems will feature intrusion prevention capabilities, web filtering, malware protection, VPN security, and SSL inspection. The technical enhancements will provide PTA with improved visibility and control over its nationwide telecom networks while strengthening defenses against unauthorized access and intrusion attempts.
Phased Implementation for Seamless Transition
The project will be executed in multiple stages to ensure minimal disruption:
- Comprehensive assessment of current network infrastructure
- Procurement and installation of new hardware components
- System configuration and rigorous testing protocols
- Staff training and capacity building programs
Following deployment, the PTA will maintain 24/7 vendor support and regular security updates for three to five years. The upgraded system will integrate with National CERT’s threat intelligence framework, enabling real-time coordination during cyber incidents. Centralized management consoles and failover configurations will further ensure uninterrupted network monitoring and operations.
