Videos circulating online showed traditional wedding festivities taking place at the Maulana’s home, prompting questions about appropriateness and religious decorum.
Maulana Tariq Jamil Faces Backlash Over Wedding Arrangements
The involvement of Maulana Tariq Jamil in solemnizing the Nikkah ceremony while sitting beside the bride drew particular scrutiny from conservative circles. Critics questioned why the respected religious scholar participated in what they perceived as an unconventional wedding setup. The presence of social media influencers documenting the celebrations and the couple’s festive behavior at the Maulana’s residence further fueled the controversy, with many arguing that such displays were inappropriate for the setting.
Maulana Yousaf Jamil Defends Father’s Actions
In response to the growing criticism, Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son, Maulana Yousaf Jamil, offered an explanation for his father’s involvement. He emphasized that his elderly father has officiated countless marriages throughout his career and views all brides as his daughters. While acknowledging that some aspects of the celebration could have been avoided, Yousaf Jamil defended his father’s kind-hearted nature and tendency to accommodate people’s requests. However, he did express disapproval of the extensive video documentation and celebratory atmosphere at their family home, suggesting Dr. Nabiha should have been more mindful of the setting
